What Subfloor Means
The subfloor is the structural surface beneath the finished flooring. It supports the floor covering and provides the base for installation.
Where It Is Commonly Used
Subfloors may be plywood, oriented strand board, concrete, or another approved assembly. Every flooring project depends on the condition of this layer.
Benefits
A sound, dry, clean, and flat subfloor supports better appearance, stronger joints, reduced movement, and longer flooring life.
Important Considerations
Water damage, deflection, uneven seams, contamination, loose panels, cracks, and moisture must be addressed before installation. Covering a weak subfloor does not solve the underlying problem.
