What Floating Floor Means

A floating floor is installed without fastening every plank directly to the subfloor. The boards connect to each other and move as one continuous surface.

Where It Is Commonly Used

This method is common with LVP, laminate, and some engineered hardwood products over approved subfloors and underlayments.

Benefits

Floating installation can be efficient, works over several substrate types, and allows the floor to expand and contract within required clearances.

Important

Important Considerations

Subfloor flatness, perimeter gaps, room size, cabinets, transitions, and fixed objects must be handled correctly. Pinching the floor can cause buckling or separation.
